More Cuban dissidents slam Spanish Foreign Minister for refusing to meet with the dissidents during his official visit to Cuba. Juan Francisco Sigler Amaya of the Independent Movement for an Alternative Option, from Matanzas declares Moratinos ‘persona non grata’. Leonel Alberto Pérez Belette of the Cuban Liberal Movement, says the Spanish government pursues its economic interests at the price of the slavery of millions of Cubans. Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello, leader of the Assembly to Promote the Civil Society affirms that Moratinos despises the Cuban people, Spain betrayed the latter as did the Spanish colonialists and calls on the human rights organizations to take action to prevent this from becoming EU’s official policy toward Cuba. Guillermo Fariñas Hernández from Santa Clara congratulates the opposition movement for refusing to meet with Moratinos in case he had decided to do so. ‘The opposition showed maturity and dignity’. Vladimiro Roca, son of the founder of the Cuban communist party and now a staunch anti-Castro activist of the Social-Democratic wing of the opposition (the above dissidents are right-leaning liberals), says Spain puts its economic interests before the human rights issue and says: ‘Mr. Moratinos and Zapatero would not like this regime for themselves, but they seem to think that the Cubans deserve the tyranny’.
