In Cuba, people observe the army reservists patroling the streets of the country as in a state of war. ”We don’t want war,” said Raúl, who didn’t want to give his last name. “We want to be able to work and provide for our families.” one resident said everyone was feeling the tension. Reinier, a 20-year-old who served two years in the military and didn’t want to give his last name, said he didn’t think a change would improve the situation. “Raúl is crazy. He’s crazier than Fidel.” Many Cubans are not buying the regime propaganda about an U.S. invasion. Many simply don’t believe in this claim. Source: The Miami Herald
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Message to the People of Cuba
Reporting from Cuba, the Miami Herald says there are lots of satellite dishes hidden in many Cubans’ houses: Cubans are using satellite TV dishes, which are outlawed by the government, to watch foreign newscasts about Fidel Castro’s health . “And on the newscasts, we get the other points of views.” A 38-year-old man named Raúl said he pays $10 a month for an illegal TV hookup and keeps the cable hidden under the dirt in front of his house. ”They’ll take away your TV and your appliances if they catch you watching” Univisión, he said. His brother Miguel, 27, says the punishment may be worse now that Castro’s health is in doubt. ”And now, since this happened, they’ll probably put you in prison,” Miguel said. The people interviewed of course declined to give their last names.
