Islamism strikes again in Iran. While the world focuses on the nuclear issue, the Islamic Republic’s Taliban prepares to flood the Sivand Dam, part of Iran’s and Mankind’s Cultural Heritage dating back to the pre-Islamic era. The world stood idle by while Afghanistan’s Taliban destroyed the Bamyaan Buddha statues. It is standing idle by while the Islamic regime prepares to commit what it is for sure a crime against humanity. The Islamic regime is taking a major step to destroy Iran and its rich cultural heritage, while the world even allows unscrupulous people to sell and buy pieces of Iranian monuments. What is next? Will the civilized people allow the destruction of part of the mankind’s treasure? Where is the UNESCO?

Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema (whose gov’t is supported just by a mere 25% according to all the recent polls) puts more shame on Italy by showing to know almost nothing of Middle Eastern issues“We hope that Iran will be determined to solve regional problems since it is a large country with a significant influence” (they have already much influence in the region.. that is why there are daily suicide bombings in Iraq, chaos in the palestinian-controlled territories and in Lebanon, Mr. D’Alema. The world should work to prevent the Mullahs from having further influence). solve the Iranian nuclear crisis through “diplomatic efforts.” ( Indeed, as we all have seen, “diplomacy” resolved much..It’s diplomacy that has brought to the current situation. It’s diplomacy the thing the West should abandon, opting not for a military strike, but for engaging the Iranian people to help them overthrow the regime in its entirety.) D’Alema described resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as a “key to solving problems in the Middle East.” (This thought is the key to failure in solving the Middle Eastern issues. This thought shows how European politicians still did not understand anything of how things work in the real world). “This Palestinian government (Hamas) should be ready to denounce violence and recognize Israel,” he said. “It should be ready to negotiate peace with Israel” (Good luck with that, Mr. D’Alema). Prince Saud lauded Italy’s role last year in hosting a conference in Rome aimed at stopping the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon. (This is evidence of the fact that Italy has not hosted that conference to stop Hizballah firing rockets into Israel. It did so in order to stop Israel from defending itself).Mr. D’Alema also says: “Don’t isolate Iran”. That is the main reason for which violence it the ME is on rise and the Iranian people are not taking to the streets anymore. Because Mr. D’Alema’s West simply does not give a d…n about the plight of Iranian people and his gov’t – as well as many gov’t in the EU and the US as well, did yet realize that helping ousting the Mullahs regime would automatically prevent a nuclear nightmare. The sad fact is that the Iranian people have been totally forgotten.

On December 31, he was hospitalized for heart problems, due to the continuous harassment he faced from the police and the fascist mobs. For months, he was denied the permit to leave Cuba to receive treatement in the U.S. So, it happens that on January 11, 2007, Miguel has died of heart attack. The Assembly to Promote the Civil Society’s Martha Beatriz Roque sent the following pics, showing the delivery of products to poor Cubans by members of the Assembly. The products are sent by the exile groups based in Miami. Please, notice how these people are not afraid to sign opposition documents, nor to reveal their names, even though they may risk jail or high fines. This shows once again that the opposition movements is growing more and more popular, despite all efforts by the regime to discredite it. This is the true Cuban people, not those who participate to the infamous repudiation acts.

Martha Beatriz also sent us a report (here, in Spanish) about a poor young Cuban couple who suffers from the HIV disease. They don’t have a house, so they sleep in an empty house and the regime wants to kick them out of there. The woman is only 16-years old and is not known if her baby also has been infected with HIV. Martha sent us a couple of photos and the original documents of the regime’s authorities (here and here), who still refuse to assist the poor couple and even imposed a very high fine. The couple sent  to Martha a letter, asking for help. The Assembly to Promote the Civil Society has given the couple half of the money needed to pay the fine. The money were politely donated by the exile groups.

Israel denies false claims of nuclear strike against Iran. Without any doubt, these rumors are part of the pshycological warfare being waged against the terrorist Islamic Republic. In reality, Israel understands quite well that a military strike in Iran would have very bad consequences. It would rally the Iranian population – in their majority against the Mullahs – around the regime and that would be the end of every hope for the liberation of Iran. The problem is not nuclear energy per sè, it’s the terrorist regime that puts its hands on it with the ultimate goal to use it against Israel. It’s the regime in Iran that must be overthrown, not the nuclear facilities per se. The democratic world has once and for all to adopt a concrete regime change policy before one that focuses only on the nuclear issue. No mullahs, no problem.

In an unprecedented move, the Iraqi gov’t has strongly rebuked all those foreign governments that criticized Saddam’s hanging. “We find that this conduct is inciting sedition and flagrant interference in the internal affairs of Iraq and abuses feelings of the families of the victims.”

Amil Imani: What to Do About Iran

There are rumors according to which the Islamic Republic’s so-called “supreme leader” is dead. I tend not to report unconfirmed news here; Khamenei’s death cannot be confirmed. I think that it’s better for everyone dedicated to the cause of the Iranian freedom, not to commit the mistake to let emotions overcome the reality on the ground. Emotions can lead to commit serious mistakes. Let’s assume he is dead: my personal conclusion is that all those who rejoice – legitimately and with every reason to do that – should remind that his death does not automatically mean the end of the Islamic regime. The theocracy is not going to change by itself just because his “supreme leader” dies. All we need to do is to put emotions aside, and rather work to help the Iranian people overthrow the totality of the Islamic theocracy once and for all, without letting in power even one of the self-proclaimed ‘reformists’ . Democratic and non-violent regime change can be reached by supporting – politically, morally and economically – all the straits of the Iranian society: students, workers, teachers, women, etc, who will be the ones who will ultimately oust the regime by themselves. While I can understand and share the joy many might feel at the news of a likely death of Khamenei, I also think we should use wiseness and rationality, avoiding to be led by emotions because that is what many did in the recent past and the results have been very bad with respect to the cause we struggle for. It’s not by the death of one Mullah or by changing the Islamist constitution, that we can hope to see the end of the theocracy. I hope wiseness prevails in ourselves and that we can again seriously and concretely take the just and realist steps to turn our good words of “We hope Iran will be free soon” into concrete action that can lead to really liberate Iran.
